Western Addition/Japantown
Wedged between the Haight and Japantown, the Western Addition is one of the city's most mixed neighborhoods - racially & demographically. Despite a hard to shake reputation for drugs and crime, the area has become a prime spot for food and nightlife. And Alamo Square is one of the most beautiful parks in the city. Notable restaurants include Brother-in-Law's BBQ on Divisidero, arguably the best soul food in town, and Alamo Square Seafood Grill, not to mention a host of great sushi joints in nearby Japantown.

While SOMA has long been hailed as the place for nightlife, the Independent and lively bars like Madrone Lounge draw a more local crowd. With great hip hop djs and a down-to-earth neighborhood vibe, it has all the fun with half the attitude. Live music lovers won't forget the legendary Fillmore or an up-and-coming jazz district that is helping to revitalize the community. Western Addition is more than just a stop on the 22 as you head for the Kabuki.
