Located on the north edge of a hill which boasts a 360 degree view of San
Francisco, Bernal Heights is home to a growing number of working mothers,
lesbian couples, and upscale but price conscious hipsters. Less suburban
and baby oriented than Noe Valley, Bernal Heights has its progressive,
earthy edge without all the bourgeois accouterments. The main commercial
street, Cortland, is dotted with local coffee shops instead of chains, and
neighborhood bars rather than the Mission/SOMA/Castro danceterias.
