The views available from Pacific Heights make it one of the most desirable
places to live in San Francisco, assuming one can afford it. Sweeping
panoramas of the San Francisco Bay and the Golden Gate Bridge are
complimented by gorgeous architecture and grand houses. Fillmore Street,
from Sutter Street to Broadway is the main commercial thoroughfare, and
caters to upscale clientele from the surrounding neighborhood. The vintage
clothing stores, designer boutiques (Betsey Johnson, Bebe), and shoe
stores (Gimme Shoes) lead to a more specific and individually tailored clothing
shopping in comparison with Downtown's emporiums and flagship stores.
The restaurant scene is comprised mainly of good quality Italian food (Jackson Fillmore, Vivande Porta Via, La Posada), sushi (Ten Ichi, Osaka) and Californian fusion (Alta Plaza, The Elite Cafe). There are relatively few bars on Fillmore, but then again, most restaurants have bars and it's always nice to drink and eat, especially when the eats are of this quality. From its Jazz history to its modern shops and boutiques, Fillmore Street has to be considered one of the great streets in San Francisco.
