SEE EVENT DETAILS
Heron Arts and Noise Pop are proud to announce HALLOWOLFBAT, the installation, exhibition and experience by Dennis McNett (Wolfbat). For its 5th year, HALLOWOLFBAT makes a West Coast debut at Heron Arts alongside musical acts High on Fire and more. Philadelphia based artist Dennis McNett will transform the interior of Heron Arts with his signature colors and linework, featuring 6-10 foot mythical creatures against psychedelic landscapes, with puppets coming alive and interacting with the crowd. Outside the gallery, Heron Street will be closed off to feature epic musical performances by High On Fire and more. See things conjured, sacrificed and monumental battles unfold to the sweet sound of metal. The opening reception is on Friday, November 3rd from 5-10pm. From 5-7pm the art exhibition will be free and open to the public. Musical performances are from 7pm-10pm, tickets will be $30 at the door. The exhibition will be free and open to the public until November 25th, by appointment and every Saturday from 11am-4pm.

Dennis McNett AKA Wolfbat

Dennis McNett, aka Wolfbat, is a well known illustrator, print maker, woodworker, and spectacle creator. His installations explore folklore, mythology and the supernatural, using his signature color palette and style of linework. The artist looks deep into the unknown while harping from traditional tattoo imagery, making creepy creatures feel antiquated and legendary. McNett has an uncanny ability to transform a space into one of his dungeons of relic and relish with puppets coming to life, taunting and teasing the audience. The artist’s installation interacts with his viewers, making the HALLOWOLFBAT spectacle enjoyable for young and old.

Dennis McNett graduated from Pratt institute with an MFA degree in 2004, where he taught until 2012. He has shown internationally including The Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Me Collection Museum in Berlin, MOHS exhibit in Copenhagen, Galleria Patricia Armocida, Milano, Italy, and nationally including The Ft. Wayne Museum of Art, Museum of Print History, Houston, TX, Museum of Contemporary Art, Jacksonville, FL, and Jonathan LeVine Gallery, NYC, Known Gallery, LA. He has been interviewed and featured by the New York Times, Juxtapoz Magazine, NPR, the Houston Chronicle and other notable sources. McNett has also contributed as a visiting artist/lecturer at over thirty Universities, colleges and art centers such as RISD, Philadelphia Academy of Fine Art, Mexi-Arte Museum, Universidad De Monterrey Monterrey, Mexico, and the John Michelle Kohler Art Center. Aside from showing and contributing to fine art institutions, his work has filled the window displays of Barney’s in NYC, has been displayed on dozens of Antihero skateboards, can be found on murals/street in places such as NYC, Philadelphia and Richmond, VA.

High on Fire

Born from the ashes of their respective former bands seventeen years ago, High On Fire wasted little time in calling down the incomparable thunder and tumult, inspiring countless other bands and artists in the time since. Over the course of their career thus far and through various lineup changes, the three-piece consisting of Matt Pike (vocals/guitar), Jeff Matz (bass), and Des Kenzel (drums) is the band at their most fully realized and utterly relentless. Through six full-lengths and a number of live releases and EPs, the punching command of High On Fire has established the band as an unmatched and wholly unmistakable force in the realm of heavy metal.

About Heron Arts

Heron Arts was founded in 2013 by Mark Slee, an active member of San Francisco's creative community, organizing events since the mid-2000s. He was joined in 2015 by directors Noah Antieau and Tova Lobatz, who are pursuing ambitious programming that will encompass installations and experiential interactive environments, alongside traditional gallery exhibitions. Over the last two years, the team has transformed the gallery and Heron Street to provide a genuine and unique experience by closing down the alley and producing an annual music and art installation series known as the Heron Arts Block Party. Collectively the three hope to provide San Francisco with a fresh outlook on contemporary beauty in the arts.
