While everyone's favorite SF holiday, Halloween, will be a bit different this year with the nixing of the Castro's craziness, there is still plenty to keep all the prowling ghouls and ghosts occupied. Get in shape to fit into that latex catsuit at the 70s Disco Sweat at Crunch Fitness, then get in the mood with the 80s Steven King Weekend at the Castro Theatre. If the likes of Cujo and Christine don't do it for you, then perhaps the Harvest Festival at The Ferry Building featuring free tastings, deals and demos is more your idea of Fall fun. However, if getting sussed up and dancing with your eyes closed defines this most hallowed of eves, make sure to head to Transylvania at Ruby Skye where there'll be four different DJs over four spooky nights.

"Since their foundation in 1998, múm have forged a sublimely bright, warm and rich take on electronica, imprinting it with their own unique sound and character. What sets the band apart from so many of their peers is both their strong, playfully haunted melodies, and sorcerous integration of analogue and digital technologies. Playing an assortment of instruments and percussion alongside some crisply programmed electronic washes, beats, dingdongs and beep-beeps as well as found sounds and field recordings, the band's talent, inventiveness and nose for musical exploration is immediately audible." - Fat Cat Records

"One of the unlikeliest success stories in rock at the turn of the millennium, Detroit rap-rocker Kid Rock shot to superstardom with his fourth full-length album, 1998's Devil Without a Cause. What made it so shocking was that Rock had recorded his first demo a full decade before, been booted off major label Jive following his Beastie Boys-ish 1990 debut, Grits Sandwiches for Breakfast, and toiled for most of the decade in obscurity...

"The music of Birds & Batteries started in Boston and Cape Cod, MA. After completing the 18-track demo titled Nature vs. Nature, Sempert moved to San Francisco and met drummer Brian Michelson while working at the legendary Hotel Utah Saloon. This chance encounter was the first step towards solidifying the foundation for Birds & Batteries in SF. The two started adapting the material from the demos to a live show with laptop serving as a crucial tool for executing Birds & Batteries' synth programming and drum machines."
