In a short one-act opera encapsulating the tensions and challenges of humanities and sciences coexisting in a university setting, a lecturer in English and Professor of genetics debate the essence and relevance of their disciplines, which becomes a metaphor for their star-crossed relationship, as parodied by a retelling of the Tristan and Isolde love story. Composed by Haris Vrontos with a libretto by John Ioannidis, Professor of Medicine at Stanford. Performed at Toyon Hall, Stanford in celebration of its founding 100 years ago. Entry is by donation at the door to El Sistema, Greece, which offers music education to youth regardless of citizenship. Refreshments will be served.
