Dom Flemons

Dom Flemons is known as “the American Songster” for his repertoire of songs spanning over 100 years of American folklore, ballads and tunes, and is an expert player on the banjo, fife, guitar, harmonica, quills, and rhythm bones. A co-founder of the Grammy award-winning Carolina Chocolate Drops, Dom left the band in 2014 to pursue a solo career, and has been touring the world ever since; he’s performed solo at Carnegie Hall, the Museum of African American History, National Cowboy Gathering, Newport Folk Festival and many other places. His newest album, released in 2018, is “Dom Flemons Presents Black Cowboys” on Smithsonian Folkways, part of the African American Legacy Recordings series.

Paul Brown & Mike Bryant Band

Bryant & Brown features the playing of two old-time music masters, Mike Bryant and Paul Brown. This extraordinary foursome presents old-time music traditions of North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia and other southern U.S. states with depth and expertise reflecting long experience. Mike and Marcia Bryant of Tennessee have played for decades at home, and at dances, fiddlers’ conventions and festivals. Mike is revered as a fiddler of style, strength and grace, with a repertoire spanning both well-known and obscure tunes. Marcia is widely respected for her super-solid guitar and bass backup. Paul Brown & Terri McMurray make North Carolina their home, and they too have performed both locally and around the U.S. for many years. Paul is probably best known as an NPR newscaster (now retired, although he still does special projects for NPR.) More to the point, he is a respected banjo and fiddle player whose unique sound on both instruments reflects his own imagination and his many years playing with senior musicians including Benton Flippen and Tommy Jarrell. Terri is a prize winning banjo player and a fine singer. These two couples, who love to make music together, bring you the old-time music sound with an easy, down home friendliness in every performance.

Sausage Grinder

Sausage Grinder, Los Angeles’ classic old-time and country blues band, combines the traditional sounds of fiddle and banjo breakdowns with the low-down sound of country blues, topped off with a touch of ragtime and hillbilly jazz. The versatile acoustic ensemble features fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, jug, washboard, and a few odds and ends.
The members of Sausage Grinder are Chris Berry, guitar, banjo and vocals; David Bragger, fiddle, mandolin, banjo; Susan Platz, fiddle, banjo, washboard, vocals; Timothy Riley, jug, washboard, jaw harp, saw, bagpipes, mouth harp, mandolin, guitar, vocals.
David Bragger and Susan Platz have recently released a CD of old-time fiddle duets, and Sausage Grinder will include some of that material in their set.
