Disney’s Frozen the Broadway Musical Coming to SF

The Tony Award-nominated musical Frozen, based on the animated Disney film, is touring North America. And Bay Area theatre company SHN (Shorenstein Hays Nederlander) has secured the all-new production for a run of performances at Orpheum Theatre during the 2020-2021 season. The creative team for Frozen, the Musical, includes EGOT-winning composer Robert Lopez, Oscar-winning lyricist Kristen Anderson-Lopez, Oscar-winning writer Jennifer Lee and Tony Award-winning director Michael Grandage.

Frozen, the Musical features the songs we know and love from the original film (what little kid wasn’t singing Let It Go back in 2013), but the entire production has been imaginatively reworked with the stage in mind: expanded music score with a dozen new numbers, added special effects, beautifully recreated sets and costumes. All these added details allow the strength of the music to take center stage.

It’s a testament to Disney, how they can turn a story’s success into a sustaining franchise. After making over $1 billion on the film, what’s a few million to renew interest, sell a few more Elsa dolls or rent a few more Frozen movies?

To be the first to be able to guarantee seats to Frozen, the Musical and tickets to the 2019–2020 Season, you have to be a member. New membership sign ups will be available to beginning Tuesday, May 7th. Additional note: Unfortunately, children under five years old are not allowed to SHN’s plays.
