Preview: Teen Daze, Yalls, Speculator

Whether you call it chillwave, dream-pop, or glo-fi, Tuesday night will be a chance to dance when Epic Sauce and Yours Truly present a night with Canadian producer Teen Daze at Public Works. Filling out the bill will be locals Yalls and Speculator.

Teen Daze

Teen Daze rose to popularity last summer with his debut EP Four More Years receiving positive reviews. The Vancouver bedroom producer, also known by his first name Jamison, is set to follow up his debut with the release of his much anticipated A Silent Planet EP, due out tomorrow, September 13th. The album’s title is inspired by the C.S. Lewis novel Out of the Silent Planet which Jamison read in-depth while he was studying philosophy in the Swiss Alps in 2008.

Yalls

Yalls is the creation of Bay Area artist Dan Casey, who this year released an epic 18-track self-titled debut. Yalls channels electronic funk and ambient influences in his first effort out on MJ MJ Records. As this is a relatively new project, there isn’t a lot of information about Yalls online, more reason to catch his supporting set Tuesday night.

Speculator

Nick Ray, who creates music as Speculator, recently moved to Oakland via Los Angeles. Speculator’s music has been tapped as “lo-fi” meet “glo-fi” and those sentiments ring true on Ray’s 2011 album Nice, released in August. Ray’s music is similar to a lot of the artists your hear creating hazy and faded sounds that continue to make  “nostalgia” a word associated with glo-fi and the subgenres like it. However Ray then makes it his own by warping and dubbing each song creating complex layering. Check out a song from Nice below.
