Hot Track: Eastern Phoebes, “Country Club”
Is it a long-lost Of Montreal B-side? No, it’s Eastern Phoebes.
I ran across these Long Island lovers/indie-pop duo while scouring SF Craigslist musicians results for the word “indie.” They had posted a link to their Bandcamp, which houses a free download of their debut full-length Wampum, recorded in February in their loft apartment.
The official Eastern Phoebes FAQ lists Ry Smith and Meg Bayley as “mulit-instrumentalist/songwriter/engineer” and “holistic health guru/yogi extraordinaire,” respectively. The following tune, “Country Club,” is appropriately twee, and will no doubt curl up into a comfortable nook in your upcoming Spring 2011 mixtape. You are working on that, aren’t you?
