City Quilts

Kudos to @burritojustice who tweeted about these amazing handmade quilts of city maps. Created by Haptic Lab, they are painstakingly made and full of beautiful detailing. They sell custom made creations, baby quilts and Readymade Soft-Maps of select cities/hoods like Washington, D.C. and Park Slope, Brooklyn. It’s way past the deadline to order for Christmas, but they’d make a great gift for any occasion.

According to Haptic Lab’s web site, a baby quilt of San Francisco ($95) is custom printed, hand-knotted and made of natural cotton. City landmarks are stitched with brightly-colored contrasting thread. Quilt measures 42″ x 36″. Readymade soft-maps are produced locally using a novel combination of machine and hand-stitching methods. Each readymade quilt is produced in collaboration with master quilter Ruth Miner of Stamford, Connecticut. Ruth has 40+ years of quilting experience and her painstaking attention to detail makes every quilt truly special. Readymade Soft-Maps are made with 100% cotton and can be machine-washed for everyday use.
