The McEvoy Foundation for the Arts (MFA) hosts Young Lovers & There's Talk, co-presented with Noise Pop. The concert is part of 'For the Sake of Summer,' MFA's film and music series featuring an eclectic mix of musicians and filmmakers.
Young Lovers is a Filipino-American shoegaze/post-rock band based in Los Angeles. Their music is characterized by cinematic and dreamlike compositions delivered with grandeur and stark honesty. Young Lovers has long been considered a staple act of LA's DIY scene. Their self-titled demo was recorded and released in 2014 by Bed Weather Records. In March 2018, they released their debut single "Distance // Absence" with Headless Queen Records as part of a split single with Bay Area post-rockers Wander and embarked on a tour to SXSW and the western US/Canada in support of the single.
The indie/electronic dream pop effort There's Talk began as project by Oakland-based multi-instrumentalist Olivia Lee. The debut EP, 'Tiny Stands,' garnered recognition from Vimeo, Bandcamp, Impose Magazine, and Crack in the Road. Collaborators Kellen Balla and Young Lee were added, expanding the ambitious electronic soundscapes for live performance. Utilizing vocal looping, lush synthesizers, and reverb-drenched guitar the three took to a hauntingly dynamic wall of sound that now sets the tone for the full band.
Advance tickets may be reserved on Eventbrite. Reserved tickets are good until 6:45 pm when all unclaimed tickets are released and made available at the door on a first-come first-served basis. Seating is limited. Please arrive early.
'For the Sake of Summer' expands upon film and music motifs and cultural themes explored in MFA's summer exhibition, 'Ragnar Kjartansson: Scenes from Western Culture.' For the Sake of Summer is co-presented with Canyon Cinema, Noise Pop, and the Roxie Theater. For details visit mcevoyarts.org.
