Women's Audio Mission is throwing a 10th anniversary party at El Rio, a local music venue in the Mission District, to celebrate 10 years of advancing women and girls in music production and the recording arts. Join WAM and some of the artists that have recorded at WAM's studio for a day of celebrating women in music and the recording arts and hanging out on El Rio's infamous sunny patio.
Come check out an all-female fronted line-up of bands, including Mariachi Femenil Orgullo Mexicano, the Bay Area's only all-female mariachi band, and all-female garage pop teen band, The SHE'S, Oakland-based 3-piece soulful post-punk band, Little Sister, and Dub Mission founder and popular local DJ, DJ SEP! More about the bands:
Mariachi Femenil Orgullo Mexicano: Mariachi Femenil Orgullo Mexicano began their journey as the first all-female Mariachi in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2007. This distinct female ensemble is comprised of 10 women of varying ages and diverse backgrounds but their passion and respect for music is what unites them.
The SHE'S: The SHE's are four natives of San Francisco who grew up as best friends in a city brimming with music. Inspired by their surroundings, each other, boredom and surfer boys, they began writing and performing their own brand of west-coast-garage-pop. They have played with touring bands such as GIRLS, The Morning Benders, The Thermals, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and The Stone Foxes.
Little Sister: Hailing from the East Bay, Little Sister is a Tri-City 3 piece that plays soulful, post-punk, moody garage rock. Little Sister gigs regularly throughout Oakland and SF and has been featured on KPFA's Apex Express and KZSU Stanford’s Wednesday Night Live.
DJ SEP (Dub Mission/San Francisco): DJ SEP is the founder, promoter, and main resident DJ at DUB MISSION. Now in its 18th year, DUB MISSION is one of the longest-running dub & reggae parties in the U.S., and the world. A weekly Sunday night party at Elbo Room in the Mission District of San Francisco, Dub Mission presents cutting-edge dub, dubstep, roots reggae, and dancehall, and has featured artists from all over the world, including Adrian Sherwood & the ON-U Sound System, Mad Professor & the Ariwa Sound System, the Scientist, Mungo's Hi Fi with Soom T, Zion Train, Twilight Circus Dub Sound System, Nickodemus of NYC's Turntables On the Hudson and many many others.
