Apparently, Viking metal is a thing. And it sounds like what the name implies: Nordic folk music meets chugga-chugga heavy metal riffage. Locals Valensorow do right by the Viking genre and mix in a whole lot of brutal death metal riffs with ancient melodies. Last year they rocked the Paganfest, and released their debut album, Neptus, full of music that people can swing their chalice of ale to, while head banging. Now they're working on an acoustic album with flutes, a mandolin, accordion and etc etc. It'll be in the vein of Neptus one mellow tune, "Dirge of the Dying," medieval folk without the chugga chugga.
