The Lineup

After partying it up on Haight Street last weekend, we move to San Francisco's hub for beat nostalgia, divey bars and nightclubs for the North Beach Festival at Washington Square Park. Warm up early in the week with SF Station's The Lineup local music showcase, featuring Rin Tin Tiger, Bonnie & the BANG BANG and Roosevelt Radio. The 2nd Annual Fireball party is back with cutting-edge electronic music and visual arts and Opulent Temple holds court at Treasure Island. Pinot Days presents the largest gathering of Pinot Noir producers in the world, according to organizers, and Foie-thers Day Dinner pairs Father's Day with Foie Gras before the delicacy is banned in California. "Contemporary awakens the past" at the latest Asian Art Museum exhibition, Phantoms of Asia, and Design Week brings the latest design trends to venues throughout the city.

It is a collaborative work: some of the parts are as old as Heian Period (794-1185) and some are as new as 2010. One of the newer parts is a tiny reproduction, made by the artist Yoshihiro Suda, of the sakaki plant (Cleyera japonica), which grows in East Asia. The sakaki is an evergreen that is considered sacred in the Shinto religion...
