"The Queen of Ireland" Documentary Screening @ SF LGBT Center

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The Consulate General of Ireland in San Francisco, in partnership with the SF LGBT Center, are hosting a screening of The Queen of Ireland to mark three years since the historic vote to legalize same-sex marriage, which advanced LGBT rights in Ireland.
On 22 May 2015, Ireland voted to legalize same-sex marriage, becoming the first country in the world to achieve marriage equality through popular vote. Panti Bliss, Ireland's premier Drag Queen, was at the forefront of the Yes Equality campaign. The Queen of Ireland documentary follows Panti in the run up to the referendum, from her Noble Call on the stage of The Abbey Theatre in February 2014, to referendum day in May 2015, and the joyous celebrations that followed. This is a fun-filled, heart-warming story of acceptance and remarkable social change, set against the glitz and glamour of drag.
This event takes place in the Rainbow Room (2nd floor of the SF LGBT Center). Doors open at 6:00 PM. Teelings Irish Whiskey will offer cocktail tasting ahead of the screening from 6pm (ID required).
The screening will run from 6:30pm to 8:00 PM, and will be followed by a short panel discussion on the referendum, the role of personal testimonies, and its impact on Ireland three years on.
