In conjunction with BAMPFA's streaming presentation of The Hottest August, join us for a live conversation and Q&A with director Brett Story and writer Meehan Crist.

Brett Story is a filmmaker, geographer, prison abolitionist, and assistant professor in the School of Image Arts at Ryerson University. Her 2016 film The Prison in Twelve Landscapes was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival. Story is author of the book Prison Land: Mapping Carceral Power Across Neoliberal America and co-editor of Infrastructures of Citizenship. Story was a 2016 Sundance Institute Art of Nonfiction Fellow and a 2018 Guggenheim Fellow.

Meehan Crist is writer-in-residence in biological sciences at Columbia University. Her work has appeared in numerous publications including the New York Times, the London Review of Books, The Atlantic, The Nation, and Scientific American. Awards include the 2015 Rona Jaffe Foundation Writer's Award and fellowships from MacDowell, The Blue Mountain Center, Ucross, and Yaddo. She is a founding member of NeuWrite and the host of Convergence: A Show About the Future. Her book on children in a time of climate crisis, Is It OK to Have a Child?, is forthcoming from Random House.
