The East Cut 3rd Friday: Squeeze/Brush/Poke/Caress

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at 302 Folsom Street (see times)
Squeeze/Brush/Poke/Caress
A Group Show about Touch

Featuring: Alyssa Lempesis, Matthew Goldberg, Ryan Rudie, Alise Anderson, Tana Quincy Arcega, Kerri Conlon

Squeeze/Brush/Poke/Caress features six Bay Area artists whose inventive use of material invites or resists physical engagement. Working predominantly in sculpture, these artists interrogate touch as a rich idiom for sense-making and reaffirm the rewards of viewing as a full-bodied experience.

Alyssa Lempesis' animations and sculptures conjure creatures of the sea and hidden landscapes of the human body, while Matthew Goldberg's ceramic busts form a lovable cast of mutants and oddities. Alise Anderson turns columns into something huggable and Ryan Rudie's exquisitely crafted wooden sculptures seem held together by a kind of magical logic. Tana Quincy Arcega’s extrusion paintings and Kerri Conlon's hairpiece sculpture lend delicacy to this pulsing, vibrant show.
