"The Artist Inside: A Five Keys Art Retrospective” (displayed in Gallery May 23rd-July 2nd) showcases the talents of Five Keys students with selected works from each annual art show starting in 2009. Student artists participate in an annual art event, revealing the individuals’ voices through their artwork, poetry, writing, and performance, including video of and by currently incarcerated individuals. This retrospective of works from the past 7 years' events highlights the artists within the students, allowing them to express themselves as more than incarcerated or disenfranchised people. “The Artist Inside” shows Five Keys' commitment to a Restorative Justice path, embracing each student as a whole person, with dreams and aspirations, while reconnecting the students with the community.Friday June 16th for the Opening Event.5:00-6:30: Open Gallery6:30-6:45: Student Poets and speakers6:45-9:00: Exclusive Full Length Preview Screening ofThe Corridor, a full-length Documentary about Five Keys, with remarks by filmmakers Annelise Wunderlich and Richard O'Connell, followed by a panel discussion with 5 Keys staff and students.Artist Reception Sunday June 18th1:30-3:30pm: Student art, live poetry, and spoken word and remarks by SF Public Defender Jeff Adachi**Originally established by the San Francisco Sheriff's Department (2003) as the first charter school in the nation inside a county jail, today 5 Keys Schools and Programs is a nationally recognized education management (non-profit) that operates accredited charter schools and programs for TAY youth and adults at 70 locations in California (www.fivekeyscharter.org) **
