Illuminate has revived the bandshell in Golden Gate Park.
Bringing the power of live performance into the heart of the park: The revived Spreckels Temple of Music was set to be unveiled by Illuminate on April 4, but was put on hold pending the lifting of Covid-19 restrictions. A soft-opening is now scheduled for Wednesday evening, October 21.
A centerpiece of Golden Gate Park's 150th anniversary celebration, a new stage with professional lighting and sound systems will bring new vibrancy and radical accessibility to this historic performance space located between the de Young Museum and the Academy of Sciences. Led by key donors Carla and David Crane, and in conjunction with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department and the San Francisco Parks Alliance, the revived bandshell will directly touch the lives of millions of park-goers.
The Bandshell lights will begin to shine nightly from sunset to midnight. Formal live performances will commence as soon as City health regulations allow.
