While not as well-known as fellow bluesman Chris Cain, he actually looked up to Sammy Varela when the two were in high school together. Since then, Sammy has been a fixture in the Bay Area live blues music scene for well over thirty years, and for good reason, too. Throughout his career, Sammy has performed with such established acts as Sunnyland Slim, Freddie King, Little Milton, John Lee Hooker, and Mike Bloomfield.
