The UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism will host Robert Frank: Books and Films 1947–2017, a two-week pop-up show by legendary photographer Robert Frank, from Monday, February 20, through March 2.
Conceived by Robert Frank himself and renowned photobook publisher Gerhard Steidl, the exhibition features Frank’s iconic images – all printed on newspaper – positioned within the wide-ranging context of his 70-year career. Interspersed among his photographs, Frank’s photobooks and films are included to create a diverse and uniquely presented view of his entire artistic career from 1947 to 2017.
The exhibition is free, accessible and open to the public. The expansive collection will be shown at two locations on the UC Berkeley campus. “The Americans” will be exhibited at North Gate Hall and Frank’s later work will be at the Worth Ryder Gallery in Kroeber Hall.
The exhibition is made possible by the generous support of Taube Philanthropies and the Steve Tisch Family Foundation. The Richard Ehrlich Family Foundation was responsible for organizing and facilitating the exhibit.
