Brian’s first musical interest came at the age of nine when he discovered his fathers 8-track tape of Steely Dan’s “Gaucho”, along with various rock and jazz classics. Coming from a lineage of classical musicians and a drummer father, Brian’s stirring creativity began to demand an outlet, so he asked his parents for a keyboard. He quickly took to exploring his musical elements and went on to learn the alto saxophone in his school’s band. With an early interest in jazz and improvisation, in the 10th grade he was given the award for “Best Soloist” at the Loyola Jazz Festival High School competition, and by the 12th grade was accepted into the magnet arts school P.C.C.A. in St. Petersburg, Florida where he received the Al Downing Foundation Jazz Scholarship upon graduation.
