Combining elements of new wave, disco, and indie rock, French alt rock outfit Phoenix is arguably one of the most creative forces in contemporary pop music. After 2009's Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix took home the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album, the band followed up in 2013 with Bankrupt!, their fifth album and most successful release to date. Building on the catchy synthpop of its predecessor and buoyed by infectious singles "Entertainment" and "Trying to Be Cool," Bankrupt! reached No.1 on the US Alternative Albums, Independent Albums, and Rock Albums charts, marking a first for the band. Formed in the suburbs of Paris in the mid-'90s, Phoenix scored a breakthrough hit with "If I Ever Feel Better" from their 2000 debut United, paving the way for the mainstream success of sophomore album Alphabetical in 2004. On tour in 2013, the band have been keeping ticket buyers moving with their danceable live sets, earning a reputation as one of the most entertaining live concerts of the year.
