Pianists to include Timo Andres, Aaron Diehl, Daniela Liebman, and Jason Moran
Philip Glass' Piano Etudes, "portals into Glass' world of whirling arpeggios, shocking rhythmic and harmonic turns, and meditative discipline" (The New York Times), represent the composer's most personal body of work, a self-portrait of a life's practice representing some of his most intimate and inventive music. Cal Performances hosts a marathon tribute to the prolific and hugely influential composer during his 90th birthday year, inviting 10 accomplished pianists from all corners of the music world-both longtime Glass interpreters and special guests-to reflect on this remarkable music.
"It works best, therefore, to think about the Etudes... as sketches of a creative force whose work will outlast any single one of us, including the artist who made it"--The Guardian
Please note: Philip Glass will not be present for this performance.
