Overture: Opera Workshops for Adults Follow the Leader: The Role of the Conductor

In this interactive workshop, conductor and West Edge Opera Musical Director Jonathan Khuner will help us understand the essential role of the conductor in opera performances. We will learn how the conductor works with the orchestra, the singers, and the stage director to interpret the composer’s vision. We’ll see how hand gestures can communicate tempo, dynamics, and much more, and have a chance to experience conducting ourselves.
Mr. Khuner has been Assistant Conductor and prompter for San Francisco Opera since 1981.
