Nobuyuki Takahashi: everyday

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Rena Bransten Projects is very pleased to present the first US exhibition of Japanese painter Nobuyuki Takahashi. Inspired by scenes from his everyday life, this entirely new body of work continues Takahashi’s careful observation of place and distills from an undulating world a quiet sense of equilibrium. Through a multi-iterative process Takahashi extracts the essence of his surrounding environment, the result of which is a deceptively simple rendering of “light, depth, and reality,” imbued with a sense of serenity and contemplation.

Always a process driven artist, Takahashi has become even more meticulous in his later works. He revisits sketches continually before moving to canvas, and allows for periods of rest between mark making, letting the imagery settle in his mind. This involved process notwithstanding, the finished work “appears effortless and repeatable at first glance, as if it was created in the blink of an eye.”

Nobuyuki Takahashi was born in 1968 in Kanagawa, Japan. He graduated from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music in 1991. He has shown extensively throughout his native Japan over the past twenty plus years, in both group and solo exhibitions. His work is in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura and Hayama, among others. He currently lives and works in Zushi, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan.
