The California Pops Orchestra, the country’s only all-request symphony orchestra, announces its 27th season beginning with “Movie Masterpieces”, September 20th, at Smithwick Theatre, Foothill College. The gala premiere show kicks off with hits by film’s biggest composers including Henry Mancini, John Williams, Elmer Bernstein, Enrich Korngold and James Horner. Under the baton of maestro and emcee Kim Venaas, the 65-piece orchestra will include film scores from cinema classics: Ben Hur, James Michener’s Hawaii, Dr. Zhivago, Harry Potter, Hook – Flight to Neverland, Lord of the Rings, Ghostbusters, as well as tunes from Rocky Horror Picture Show, the perennial cult favorite. An added bonus feature is a special request tribute to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.
