Literary Art: At Sea, Leveling Up & a Mad, Mad Amazing Race

This week in Literary Arts, catch Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Gene Yang and The Lamplighters as they read from new and old works.

On Friday, poet and founder of City Lights Books, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, will recite the debut of his new poem, At Sea, at Meridian Gallery. Poet Jack Hirschman will be in conversation with Ferlinghetti and will also read from his latest, Arcana.

If graphic novels are more your cup of tea, Level Up with Gene Yang this Saturday at the main branch of the SF Public Library. The award-winning author of such artsy successes as American Born Chinese, The Eternal Smile and Level Up will speak on his process.

This Sunday, get ready for It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Amazing Race Around the World in 79½ Days — and as the name indicates, it will be quite a mash-up. The Langlighters’ 46th Annual Champagne Gala will be part theater, part literary art production, with a live cast including authors Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, Mary Shelley and Mark Twain, in full Victorian steam-punk flair.
