ABOUT THE PERFORMERS

Stefanie Keys is an Indie Rock artist working in San Francisco and Nashville. From 2009-2014 she fronted Big Brother & The Holding Company. Throughout her career, Keys has been developing a Southern Rock/Soul flavor all her own. Her style has been compared to Lucinda Williams, Melissa Etheridge, and Jill Scott. “She isn’t afraid to move from a gently rendered acoustic track into a slow burning and muscular soulful rocker,” says Gilbert Mullis of Carlito’s Music Blog. “Credibility and confidence alike come from every song.” The artist’s third album “Open Road,” released in September 2016, features producer and guitarist Dave Shul (Spearhead) and Peter Keys (Lynyrd Skynyrd). Under Shul’s influence, Ms. Keys explored the subtle nuances of her vocal ability in smooth, urban tracks like “City Life” and “9 O’Clock.” “Humanity is a defining characteristic of this release,” says Charles Hatton of Indie Music Reviews. “Keys often sounds like someone who would be singing these songs even if no one were listening. The fullness of her expression on the magnificent ‘Open Road’ leads listeners to believe this might be her most personal statement yet.”

A Bay Area native, Deborah Winters began to perform in San Francisco nearly 2 decades ago with her guitar and original songs. As she expanded to include Jazz and other contemporaries she met the highly acclaimed pianist/arranger Frank Martin, with whom she collaborated and recorded her first release “live in session.” She released her second original CD, “Inspired.” with award winning producer/arranger Gary Malkin. Over the years, other collaborations with notable Bay Area greats have included legendary drummer Tony Williams, singer Bobby McFerrin and Brazilian guitarist Jose Neto.
Variety and versatility characterize Deborah’s ongoing performance schedule as she continues to dazzle and uplift her audiences at Bay Area music festivals, concert halls, churches and house concerts. Her jam-packed teaching schedule attests to the profound impact she has on developing up-and-coming vocalists in a broad array of musical styles.

The Prohibition Mob Band, led by Roberta Donnay, is a vintage jazz and swing band that employs 1920-30s swing, blues, and roots music in the jazz tradition. The ensemble’s mission is to explore, celebrate, and promote America’s jazz roots by interpreting vintage material as well as contributing original works reminiscent of the Jazz Age. Roberta Donnay & the Prohibition Mob Band have been touring the U.S. since 2012. The Prohibition Mob Band releases its third CD, “My Heart Belongs To Satchmo” on Blujazz in March 2018. This new record is devoted to the early music of Louis Armstrong, continuing the band’s tradition of resurrecting both well-known and obscure vintage music. Previously, the group released “A Little Sugar” (2012) and “Bathtub Gin” (2015) on Motema. “A Little Sugar” spent 9 weeks on the Jazz radio charts, and “Bathtub Gin” was named one of the Best Albums of 2015 by DownBeat Magazine. Award-winning singer and composer Roberta Donnay has been performing and recording for more than two decades. Prior to forming the Prohibition Mob Band, she recorded with legendary producer Orrin Keepnews and was a member of Dan Hicks & the Hot Licks. Donnay’s music spans multiple genres, including writing for film and TV.

The group performs a wide range of jazz: swing, standards, blues, latin and originals. Kay is a professional actress, singer, dancer and director who has performed in plays and musicals in many regional and Bay Area theaters, including the Magic Theatre, Marin Theatre Company, San Francisco and California Shakespeare Festivals, Stanford Summer Theater and A.C.T. (American Conservatory Theatre). Her theatrical background lends an emotional sensitivity to her lush and sensuous three-octave vocal range.

Willow van den Hoek’s life in music is essentially a story of people. Beginning in a church choir, she learned the magic of harmony and arrangement in singing. Willow left choir to travel around Europe, Morocco and Turkey singing and playing with her trusty guitar. In Bordeaux, she was taught to play spoons by the incredible Florentine Deraime. Upon returning to the U.S., Willow became a street musician for a couple years in a 5-piece band. She met Ramblin’ Jack Elliott – a cowboy-folkie era link with her beloved John Herald (Greenbriar Boys), which eventually led to her recording for Bonnie Raitt. Willow has worked with and shared the stage with many talented artists including Jackson Browne, Tom Waits, Harry Nilsson, Nicolette Larson, David Bromberg, Maria Muldaur, Doug Dillard, Norman Greenbaum, Bill Keith & Mimi Farina.
