Heron Arts Presents: Analysis New Works and Installation by HUSH

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Heron Arts is pleased to present the immersive experience from the compulsory creative, Britain’s HUSH. The artist is returning to San Francisco after many years and a whirlwind of successes around the world. The exhibition will feature HUSH’s largest installation to date, an animation created by the artist, hand embellished limited edition prints and original paintings. To accompany the work will be legendary Bay Area hip-hop DJ QBert who has championed the skratching scene globally. We are pleased to be partnering with Untitled Art Fair for their official after party. HUSH will be in attendance during the opening reception at Heron Arts on Saturday, January 13, 2018. The exhibition will be on display on Saturday’s from 11am-4pm and by appointment until February 6, 2018 and is free and open to the public.

Upon entering the gallery through the firehouse garage door, the viewer will be captured by a massive 12 x 12ft structure. Each side of the figure will offer a glimpse into the process that Hush employs to create his paintings. The four-sided structure exposes the layers of his work, stripping down the composition for the viewer to get a deeper look into the way such beautiful figures are created. The viewer will feel enamored by the painting and drawn to the eyes, so perfectly composed, with striking bold lines wheat-pasted to create texture and layers.

The artist will continue to break down his process on the gallery walls by painting the abstract lines that one sees on his paintings in large form, directly on the walls. In addition to painting, another medium that HUSH will present is animation. Specifically made for this exhibition, an animation will be projected on the wall, again giving the viewer a different look at the process of construction, creating and understanding of what a piece is comprised of and its true intention.

This deconstruction of the process leaves it up to the viewer to decide if greater beauty lies in the construction or in the final product.

From his London studio, HUSH paints for exhibition and site work in Europe, Australia, and North America. A UK native, his street art, murals, and paintings have been featured in numerous books and publications and was recognized by London’s The Independent as one of the “Top 20 Up and Coming Artists.” HUSH recently curated New York hotspot VANDAL, situated in the Bowery. In addition to creating a large-scale mural himself, he also showcased some of the best artists in street and urban art from around the world.

DJ QBert
DJ QBert, born Richard Quitevis, is widely regarded as the most highly skilled skratching dj that has walked this planet. His long-standing career of innovating the DJ culture has set off a worldwide generation of DJs who are now regarded as musicians and not just DJs that play records, from A-Trak to Craze to C2C to Z-Trip; they would testify to DJ QBert’s influence in their sound and successful careers.
DMC World Championship appearances since 1991-1994 gave global exposure to DJ QBert’s unbelievable skills and performances. Hailed as the ambassador of skratching for today and to the future, he has been recognized by his peers as innovating more styles and systems of skratching. He comes from the era of experimental battle DJs who in the mid-90’s gave shape to the infinite sounds of 2 turntables and scratching vinyl. Honorably knighted “Grandmixer” by legendary pioneer GrandMixer DXT. An honor dignified by hip-hop’s most hallowed Knighting tradition; securing his place as one of hip-hop’s living legends.

As a founding member of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, he has been the focus of two major documentary films Scratch and Hang The DJ, both of which were selected at Cannes and Sundance Film Festival. DJ QBert’s acclaimed first album, Wave Twisters was reverse engineered from sound into visuals also becoming his first feature film, which was also selected for the Sundance Film Festival.

Through his partner Yogafrog and company Thud Rumble, QBert has been able to expand his influence in the culture; designing and releasing innovative DJ products, collaborating with the most successful DJ companies in the industry seeking his stamp of approval, teaching on his online DJ school QBert Skratch University, appearances in various video games including DJ Hero 2 and doing post -production for the animated feature Turbo.

His latest albums, which started as a Kickstarter project, is the most successful hip-hop project to date and Top 20 all-time music project on the popular crowdfunding platform. Partnering with iTunes, Morning Breath Inc. and Novalia UK, DJ QBert will be changing the way music albums are presented. The possibilities are endless as the culture continues to grow far and wide with DJ QBert leading the way.

DJ QBert was officially awarded the title America’s Best DJ in 2010. With a well-documented and successful DJ career, he is considered as one, if not “The Greatest DJ Of All Time”.
