Philip Krohn & AUXART'S site-specific work Hawks and Doves will take full flight on September 21 with a special performance by an ensemble of the Bay Area's most adventurous musicians.
A sculptural line-drawing extending over 150 yards through di Rosa's century-old olive grove, Hawks & Doves explores concepts of flight lines, points of view, separation and intersection, need and use, and resolution and rhythm. These points of inquiry will serve as a conceptual score for the group of performers assembled and led by Krohn and in collaboration with drummer Scott Amendola. The group of musicians will build an improvised sound conversation in five 10-minute parts, moving from isolated percussion calls to full-throated musical oration, dissonant argument, rhythmic engagement, and a volleying of last words.
Featuring:
Scott Amendola: Drums, Percussion
Mark Clifford: Vibraphone, Marimba
Tara Flandreau: Viola, Violin
Fred Frith: Guitar
Ben Goldberg: Clarinet
Aurora Josephson: Voice
Robert Lopez: Percussion
Lisa Mezzacappa: Acoustic Bass
Larry Ochs: Soprano & Tenor Saxophone
Crystal Pascucci: Cello
Karen Stackpole: Gongs, Tam Tams, Percussion
Willie Winant: Percussion, Glockenspiel
Philip Krohn: Artistic Direction
