Glitteratti Deux

SEE EVENT DETAILS
at Black Repertory Group (see times)
A lively concert featuring singers from Faye Carol’s School of the Getdown. The Dynamic Miss
Faye Carol has been teaching her vocal workshop series, known as The School of the
Getdown, for the past fifteen years. She has decided to highlight some of the voices she has been blessed to teach. The show will feature solo songs as well as choral pieces. The first show was so warmly received that the Glitterati is coming together a second time to present Glitteratti Deux, A Night of Song II. While some School of the Getdown alumni sing professionally, for many this is a chance to stretch beyond the workshop setting and be exposed to a wider audience. The show will be at the Birel L.Vaughn Theater (Black Repertory Group), 3201 Adeline St. Berkeley, California. The School of the Getdown singers will be joined by a superb trio of musicians.

A veteran performer, The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol is one of the premiere vocalists of
her time, arranging jazz standards and other popular songs in her own way, well before mixing genres such as hip-hop, jazz and blues were so widely embraced. This Bay Area living legend remains true to her Mississippi roots infusing the blues into everything from Cole Porter to Michelle Legrand songs. She began singing while still a young girl in Meridian, Mississippi where her grandmother recognized her gift and kept her involved in school and church events. After relocating to Pittsburg, CA she became immersed in gospel music, touring nationally with her church group. In the 1960s her professional career began, and she was a large part of the innovative funk scene in Oakland, CA. Miss Carol also gives back to the musical community by teaching voice, the History of Black
Music, and continues to the present with the after-school program she founded, Music in the Community.
