Heron Arts is pleased to announce the group exhibition Four Seasons by Helice Wen, Chelsie Kirkey, Jocelyn Tsaih, Olympia Altimir, and The Tracy Piper. The exhibition will be on view at Heron Arts until October 27th, 2022. Four Seasons consists of an all female lineup of figurative painters. Four Seasons refers to the ever-changing nature of a woman's experience. The opening reception for Four Seasons is on Thursday, September 29th, 2022 from 5-9pm and is free and open to the public.

The complexities of female desire, identity, emotions, and intimacy can often be oversimplified or unrepresented entirely. The artists will examine the nuances of sexuality and present their take on the subject matter. Four Seasons will be a rejection of that precedent and a celebration of self. Like the fours seasons, our identity, and encompassing needs (physical, mental, emotion, sexual, etc) are an ecosystem in itself and in constant flux.

The work presented will explore the cultural expectations put on women and the evolution of self discovery many make as they come to understand what their own womanhood means to them. Symbolic flora as well as specific gestures are used in many of the pieces to represent different emotions related to this continuous process of introspection.

Helice Wen
Helice Wen is a Chinese-American artist. She was born and raised in ShenZhen, China. She moved to San Francisco at age 14 where she currently lives and works.

Helice received a BA Illustration degree from Academy of Art University, San Francisco. After she illustrated several children's books, Helice switched her focus to gallery work. Her work has shown in galleries both nationally and internationally.

Through her work, Helice uses figures and floral patterns to narrate the intimate, vulnerable, and sensibilities in everyday life.

Chelsie Kirkey
Chelsie Kirkey (b. 1987) is an American artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Figurative work of herself, her friends, her lovers and her environment, she invites the viewer to witness captured, intimate moments of her life. Her process to create begins with photography. She refers to her paintings as documented memories and employs her own photographs as a reference for many of her paintings.
As the emotions attached to the perception of this instant subconsciously transcribe in her style and execution, she adjusts her medium of choice from precision to quickness; from long meticulous detail oriented acrylic paintings to quick loose pencil drawings. Subjects and techniques vary within necessity, moods and seasons, but all her work strives for the same dream: to capture the divine that resides in all things.
Jocelyn Tsaih
Jocelyn Tsaih (b. 1992) is a Taiwan-born, Shanghai-raised artist currently based in Oakland, California. The focal aspect of her work is an amorphous figure that's meant to be both a reflection and a vessel. By illustrating these figures, Tsaih pours herself into them while encouraging viewers to do the same. The unspoken dialogue that's present in her work exists in parallel to her observations of what it means to be beings that fundamentally long for connection. Her use of multiple mediums, including painting, drawing, and sculpture, is an extension of her exploration on communicating our complex experiences as humans.

Olympia Altimir
Olympia Altimir is an Andorran artist currently based in Los Angeles, California. Since she graduated from the Academy of Art in San Francisco, she has been part of many shows in the Bay Area and California, including a group show at de Young Museum.

Her oil and mixed media paintings fall in the realm of imaginative realism and symbolism, with a lot of natural elements influenced by the Pyrenees Mountains where she was born and raised.

The Tracy Piper
Tracy Piper (b. Oakland, CA, 1987) is a female-identifying, contemporary painter and art activist. Best known for her vibrant portraits and figurative acrylic paintings, Piper's illustrative work tackles social constructs in an abstract-realist style. She has shown at SCOPE and SELECT in Miami, FL; stARTup Art Fair in San Francisco and Los Angeles, CA; SCOPE New York, NY; and exhibits internationally. In 2017 Tracy competed on the GSNTV show "Skin Wars: Fresh Paint" and emerged victorious! Most recently, Tracy completed six murals in the Bay Area to show solidarity with the Black Lives Matter Movement and promote community safety during COVID-19. Her first published book 'Worthy' is available now at Voss Gallery. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration from California College of the Arts and is represented by Voss Gallery.
Heron Arts
Heron Arts was founded in 2013 by Mark Slee, an active member of San Francisco's creative community, organizing events since the mid-2000s. He is joined in 2015 by director Tova Lobatz, who is pursuing ambitious programming that encompasses installations and experiential interactive environments, alongside traditional gallery exhibitions. Collectively they hope to provide San Francisco with a fresh outlook on contemporary beauty in the arts.
