Expand Salon: Cannabis, Virtual Reality and Music

SEE EVENT DETAILS
Expand Salon, an intimate and immersive consciousness expanding gathering on December 22nd, 2017.
What you can expect:
// Learn and Dialogue:
* A panel of experts with backgrounds in psychology, technology, entheogens, music, and spirituality discussing the mind-expanding self-healing potential of 3 specific non-pharmacological medicines in symbiosis: cannabis, music, and virtual reality. There will be a Q&A discussion.
// Experience and Embody:
* 5 VR booths set up with a wide range of awe-evoking, completely immersive VR experiences pre-loaded and ready.
* A silent disco party with a live DJ with 3 music stations ranging from electronic to psychedelic rock to tribal beats.
* A spread of cannabis concentrate and edibles of various strains for you to explore and delight in throughout the evening.
* Live music and healthy food to further delight the senses.
Please be mindful that this event is intended to be an enhancing and expanding experience, which is often achievable through small doses of cannabis. We’d miss much of the subtleties of our experience if we were overmedicated. For those new to cannabis, we will work with you to determine the right strain and right dose.
Why this particular combination?
Many forces are driving the increased application of cannabis as a therapeutic medicine. Not only has cannabis been legalized in more than half of the United States, it has become less stigmatized than ever before. Usage is up 250% in the past ten years among adults aged 50 and older. People are now beginning to explore how certain strains interact with their own unique physiology. Due to its interaction with our own body’s endocannabinoids, which regulate control over much of the nervous system, cannabis uses the body’s own tools to repair itself. In a peer-reviewed scientific paper published in 2013, doctors Pal Pacher and George Junos state that modulating endocannabinoid system activity “may have therapeutic potential in almost all diseases affecting humans.” A wealth of clinical trials also continue to demonstrate the anti-inflammatory properties as a result of the symbiotic interaction of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol).
Music holds exceptional therapeutic value and it’s perhaps safe to say this claim requires no empirical research for us to believe that poetry in song form contains the promise of deep transformative change. Traditionally, psychoactive plant medicine journeys have music guiding the experience -- drumming, and chanting. Melodies are believed to invoke and summon spirits and animals needed for the healing journeys and to keep bad spirits away. In a 2016 study by the Imperial College of London, researchers discovered a fascinating connection between LSD + music, and an increase of information released from the parahippocampus to the visual cortex, allowing participants to access more personal memories.
We have reason to believe our brain in virtual reality might more closely resemble what meditators refer to as “beginner’s mind” than our brain in “base” reality. Subscribing to the belief that cannabis heals and music enlivens, we feel the symbiosis of cannabis, music, and VR creates the possibility of re-patterning, repairing, and re-telling some of our stories.
Our panel discussion for the evening, led by Dr. Michelle Wang, PsyD, will orient around exciting potentials for innovative and reimagined ways of healing from a psychological perspective. After the discussion, there will be adequate time for guests to explore virtual reality hands-on throughout the evening.
You are encouraged to bring your favorite cannabis flower or concentrates to vaporize (no smoking on premises, or dab rigs).
What Might I Learn?
* The powerful healing potential of VR, cannabis, and music
* How to induce elevated states of consciousness
* How to embody emotions, sensations, ineffable experiences
* How to create space for parts of us that still requires healing
* How to integrate insight accumulated during elevated states into practical day-to-day experiences

No prior experience or knowledge in either cannabis or virtual reality use are required.
