Discovery Day at AT&T Park

SEE EVENT DETAILS
AT&T park is transformed into a science wonderland for the concluding event of the Bay Area Science Festival – a FREE science extravaganza. Last year, more than 30,000 people enjoyed a non-stop program chock-full of interactive exhibits, experiments, games, and shows, all meant to entertain and inspire. With more than 150 exhibits, everyone can find something that will unleash their inner scientist.

Rain or Shine!

When: Due to popular demand, we are extending the hours of this event to 10AM-4PM!

Suggested Age: Families with kids 0-14

Cost: FREE! No tickets/RSVP needed.

What to Expect

Experience over 150 hands-on exhibits and activities from leading science and technology organizations from across the Bay Area. Universities, science museums, research labs, after school organizations, and local companies join forces for an unprecedented opportunity to meet scientists and engineers. Topics include health & medicine, engineering, technology, biotechnology, climate science, and so much more. This year, every exhibit will be framed as investigative questions to encourage explorations and curiosity that we hope will continue throughout the school year.

The Bay Area Science Festival will host the fifth annual Discovery Day at AT&T Park on 11/111, culminating more than two weeks of events that have taken the Bay Area public on a journey from the microscopic world of yeast to the wonders of the cosmos.

On Saturday, AT&T Park will be transformed into a science extravaganza with hands-on activities and events, enabling local families to extract their own DNA, meet leading scientists, explore insect fauna, watch robot competitions, build catapults and dissect the inner workings of a cow’s eye.

“The Bay Area is known for its spirit of creativity and innovation in science and technology, but many of our citizens have very few opportunities to experience the rich and vital role science plays in our culture,” said Dan Lowenstein, MD, executive vice chancellor and provost of UC San Francisco, which is the scientific host of the festival. “This celebration opens the doors to a tremendous range of science, from wetland preservation to biorobots, in hopes of engaging young people and the young-at-heart in the fun, curiosity and love of discovery that science can offer.”

Founded in 2011 through a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation, the now-annual festival has grown from one week to 16 days, and attracts more than 70,000 people each year, many of whom traditionally do not have access to quality scientific resources. The UCSF Science and Health Education Partnership (SEP) produces the festival each year, with support from Chevron, which has been the lead sponsor since its inception, and a core group of local scientific institutions and museums.

“Chevron is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Bay Area Science Festival, which showcases innovation and ingenuity within our Bay Area communities,” said Steve Green, Chevron vice president, Policy, Government and Public Affairs. “We hope this festival will inspire students to pursue STEM and become the scientists and engineers of the future.”

The collaborative public education initiative brings together leading science and technology organizations across the Bay Area, including the area’s renowned universities, science museums, research labs and local companies, with the collective aim of providing access to the region’s vast science and technology assets for every Bay Area resident. Topics include health & medicine, engineering, technology, biotechnology, climate science and others.

"Science deserves to be celebrated as an important part of Bay Area culture, just as we do for music, art and food," said Kishore Hari, PhD, director of the Bay Area Science Festival. "We hope this festival serves as a spark for thousands to continue to be curious throughout the year."
