I've struggled with the Dave Matthews Band since they first rose to stardom in the mid-90's. I want to like them, but I can't get into them. There's nothing bad you can say about their musicianship-in fact, it's almost too good. What's wrong with me that I would rather listen to some crappy punk band that barely knows three chords than a group of guys that have devoted their lives to mastering their craft? Maybe it's just the kind of music they play. Soft rock. Jam band. Jazz fusion. No thank you. Give me songs that are hard, short, and Beatles-inspired. And I'm pretty sure everyone agrees with me, because at last count Matthews had only sold around 30 million albums.

Formed in Virginia in the early 1990's, Dave Matthews Band quickly developed an intensely loyal, grassroots following intrigued by its eclectic sound and compelling live performances. Today, with 14 million tickets sold, the Grammy Award winning Dave Matthews Band is consistently one of the top draws on the concert circuit. 2005's Stand Up, the group's most recent studio album, was Dave Matthews Band's fourth consecutive studio album to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200. It was followed in 2006 by the band's first-ever retrospective - The Best of What's Around, Vol. 1 - a double disc set capturing many of the band's hits, including "What Would You Say," "Crash Into Me" and "American Baby."
