Comet Empire

SEE EVENT DETAILS
The Comet Empire has spent the last three years writing and recording their forthcoming debut record, Secret Disasters. In the bunker-like confines of the old Sixth Army headquarters in San Francisco's Presidio, they deployed an array of vintage analog synthesizers, electronic drums, family heirloom acoustic guitars, hollowbody electrics, as well as the usual Fenders and Gibsons. The only rule of recording was to follow the inspiration of the song without worry of how said song might be reproduced live. This open-minded songwriting process led the band to create music that spans the spectrum, from introspectively quiet acoustics to high energy synth and guitar-driven barn burners. At a high point, they captured the sound of loose change being dropped onto a ride cymbal for effect. At a low point, they Googled "how to play sleigh bells".

Founding members Cris Logan (vox/drums), Jason Bridges (vox/guitars) and Chris Stevens (vox/bass/synths) were lucky enough to recruit Amanda Guilbeaux (vox/synth/percussion), and with eight hands now available, the live show has become tougher and yet more finely textured, reminiscent of Queens of the Stone Age, Echo and the Bunnymen, Editors, Ryan Adams, and Duran Duran.

The band's music has been featured in various TV shows and commercials, including Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, MTV's Teen Mom, and spots for Vans, Hyundai, Comcast, Netflix and the Oakland Athletics.
