Many a brave soul have joined bassist Tatsu Mikami and his Japanese doom metal outfit, Church of Misery since he started the band in 1995. He's gone through more members than guitar picks, but the sound has remained constant: slow, powerful metal. Plus the vision of the band hasn't changed-their lyrics share dark tales of serial killers and mass murderers. Compared to some doom metal bands, Church of Misery keeps it pretty traditional, as in heavily influenced by old Sabbath records. However, the (current) singer is more aggressive and there are some psychedelic elements, but it's still primarily just heavy, deep metal riffs. (Aaron Carnes)
