Join us for a reception celebrating the work of Kevin Keul June 24, 5pm - 8pm at Avenue 12 Gallery. The Artist will give a brief talk at 7pm, followed by questions and discussion. Kevin Keul:
“With past paintings deeply embedded in direct environmental factors on the landscape such as fracking and salt ponds, compositionally I am transitioning to a more traditional pictorial landscape framework for each painting from sky to ground and back again. I depend on the unplanned texture that results from my process of gluing strips of canvas to the panel to highlight the cracks I see daily in my neighboring concrete walls, sidewalks, city roads and state territories. The lines reflect pathways that have eased our travel from rural terrains to dense metropolitan centers, and the rivers, lakes and ponds that are the foundation of them all. These map like qualities are what inspire my work whether they are observed in Graffiti Alley, through satellite imagery orwhile walking along untouched dirt roads in rural America.”
