Angelo Moore & the Brand New Step featuring Del Tha Funkee HomosapienAngelo Moore is the legendary frontman of Fishbone and known for his explosive on-stage presence, amazing vocal talents, and mad musical skills on saxophone, theremin and Hammond B3. Though Angelo still performs with Fishbone, he has created a new project, The Brand New Step, as an outlet for something beyond Fishbone and as a way to collaborate with an all-star cast. The Brand New Step has now toured to Taiwan, Japan and across the U.S. with this new group that fuses neo-soul, funk, and electronic together all the while led by the mind-bending showmanship of Angelo.
The Brand New Step launched in 2013 when Bay Area keyboardist and producer Jim Greer (a songwriter for Galactic/Macy Gray, Foster the People producer, member of Rondo Brothers, Handsome Boy Modeling School and more) and guitarist Kris Jensen approached Angelo to make some new music and possibly create a new project. The collaboration went better than expected, and within 6 months the three had signed the group to Philly's Ropeadope Records. The first two records ( Sacrifice, and Centuries of Heat) featured an impressive guest list : Boots Riley, Casual, Butterscotch, Stanton Moore & Robert Mercurio & Ben Ellman ( Galactic) , James DePrato, Claude Coleman Jr ( Ween), Hashish Vyas ( Thievery Corporation) and more. Moving into 2015 the Brand New Step quickly started booking shows and paying dues as a new group, with a new sound combining Angelo's dynamic vocals, horns, theremin with beatboxers, MCS, and seamless electronic and live beats for a fantastic musical experience. They have since traveled the US from San Francisco to New York as well as a two week tour to Taiwan and Japan in 2018.
On September 6th the Brand New Step is proud to include friend of the band and world famous rapper Del The Funky Homosapien as a special guest for the first time ever. As a fan of Angelo's, Del is looking forward to an onstage meeting of two of music's most original minds, backed up by a fantastic live band. With shared heritages in hip hop, funk, and psychedelic soul, Angelo & Del will be a pairing to remember.
Onstage this night will be Hassan Hurd ( The Coup), Jim Greer, Kris Jensen, Hashish Vyas ( Thievery Corporation), singer Yunoka Berry, beatboxer Syzygy Beatbox, guitarist James DePrato and Angelo Moore.
