Timpanist and composer William Kraft wrote his second concerto specifically for San Francisco Symphony's David Herbert to perform, and Herbert will perform it with Symphony Silicon Valley. Played on 15 custom-built timpani tuned for melody, the concerto will include dance and music. One of Shostakovich's greatest works includes his autobiographical Tenth Symphony, with its portrait of Stalin and its passionate moods of despair and triumph.
