“We Are La Cocina” Beautifully Encapsulates the Incubator Kitchen’s Core Mission

When it comes to food, few San Francisco resources have influenced food as much as La Cocina. In almost 15 years, the incubator kitchen has helped many women along the way reach toward their goals and introduced a hungry, food savy Bay Area market to the flavor possibilities these cooks and chefs bring, literally to the table.

And so, when the idea of this cookbook, We Are La Cocina, took form, the book’s creators, photographer Eric Wolfinger and writers by Zigas and Landa, had a straightforward challenge; kind of get out of the way, yet invest the countless hours that would allow each women’s unique story shine through. The book was released a few months ago, so we’re a little slow to the party on this one… but still, these kinds of things never get old.

“This book is important. These stories are joyous. These recipes work. We Are La Cocina celebrates our imperfect union and the many people who claim our nation. America needs the brilliance and biro of the women of La Cocina.”

— John T. Edge, Writer and Director of Southern Foodways Alliance

The result is more than 40 heartfelt stories from amazing women and 120 recipes that you might not have otherwise attempted. Proceeds from the book go back to La Cocina.

Even if you don’t purchase the book, it’s never to early to think about La Cocina’s San Francisco Street Food Festival. This year’s event happens Saturday, October 12th, 11am – 8pm.
