The Eighth Annual GLIDE Legacy Gala on Saturday, August 5th, will bring young Bay Area professionals and philanthropists together for a formal, festive and celebratory night in support of GLIDE and its programs and to honor GLIDE’s tradition of love, leadership and community. The Gala’s new location at the San Francisco Design Center (101 Henry Adams Street) will be the backdrop for an evening filled with dancing, music, food, drinks and awards.
Hosted by the GLIDE Legacy Committee, the evening will feature musical performances and honor three luminaries for their social impact in the Bay Area and global communities and their commitment to making the world a better, freer and more equitable place for all. This year’s Gala will honor three notable leaders with the following awards: the Janice Mirikitani Award will go to Shiza Shahid, co-founder of the Malala Fund and Founding GP NOW Ventures; the Reverend Cecil Williams Award will go to Shaka Senghor, prison reform activist and New York Times bestselling author; and the Community Hero Award will go to Greg Kloehn, artist and tiny-house builder for formerly homeless people.

The houses are typically just over three feet wide and several yards long, and include doors and windows, and small wheels for mobility. Kloehn has given away many of the houses to formerly homeless persons.

Hosted by the GLIDE Legacy Committee, the evening will feature musical performances and honor three luminaries for their social impact in the Bay Area and global communities and their commitment to making the world a better, freer and more equitable place for all. This year’s Gala will honor three notable leaders with the following awards: the Janice Mirikitani Award will go to Shiza Shahid, co-founder of the Malala Fund and Founding GP NOW Ventures; the Reverend Cecil Williams Award will go to Shaka Senghor, prison reform activist and New York Times bestselling author; and the Community Hero Award will go to Greg Kloehn, artist and tiny-house builder for formerly homeless people.
The internationally renowned GLIDE Ensemble and The Change Band will entertain the more than 1,000 guests, while the beats by DJ KingMost will keep the groove going. Drinks and delicious hors d'oeuvres will be provided by San Francisco's hottest spots, including: BaoDown GastroBar, Bob's Steak & Chop House, The Brixton, Casa Sanchez, Farallon, Mourad, Pa'ina Restaurant & Lounge, Taverna Aventine, Twenty Five Lusk, and Woodhouse Fish Co. In addition, the GLIDE Legacy Committee will host an online auction fundraiser on eBay featuring a variety of unique items that offer the ultimate in music, food, travel, sports and lifestyle experiences from San Francisco to New York. The auction will run August 1st-5th and can be found at ebay.com/glidesf.
The GLIDE Legacy Gala raises funds for programs of the GLIDE Foundation so that GLIDE can continue to provide innovative and comprehensive services to the poor and marginalized in San Francisco. Tickets are $90 for General Admission and $160 for VIP, and are available at Eventbrite. A VIP ticket includes a meet-and-greet with GLIDE co-founders Reverend Cecil Williams and Janice Mirikitani, one-hour early entry from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, special access to VIP areas, and premium access to specialty cocktails and small bites. About Shaka Senghor

About Greg Kloehn
Greg Kloehn is an artist and tiny-house builder in Oakland, California and founder of Homeless Homes Project whose goal is to bring together imaginative people and discarded materials to make sturdy, innovative, mobile shelters for the homeless. Kloehn uses found materials, including illegally dumped items, to build unique structures at a cost of less than $100. The houses are typically just over three feet wide and several yards long, and include doors and windows, and small wheels for mobility. Kloehn has given away many of the houses to formerly homeless persons.

Shiza Shahid is a social entrepreneur, television personality, speaker and women’s rights advocate. She is passionate about leveraging philanthropy, venture capital, technology and the media to drive scalable social impact.?
