Local Band Pardoner Will Rock El Rio

The folks at Throwin’ Bo’s have put together another fine line up next month at El Rio, featuring local punk rockers Pardoner to seal the deal. Their most recent album, Playin’ On A Cloud, is a loud and lively collection of happy melodies and punchy drums. Song “One for Weston” is a solid example of the band’s ability to layer melodic guitar riffs with a blasé attitude and snappy post-punk vibes.

Recorded at The Atomic Garden and released last summer, Playin’ On A Cloud is a bold follow up to 2017’s Uncontrollable Salvation. After having released Salvation on Father Daughter Records, the band tried putting Cloud out themselves, to decent success. The band is set to record another record coming up next year and as far as labels? Who knows, but they’re crankin’ out some new tunes and more shows. Both albums were mixed and mastered at The Atomic Garden by Jack Shirley, who the fellas say has “…always been a pleasure to work with!”

Another favorite on the bill is Bethlehem Steel; coming in from Brooklyn. They’re perfect for those of us who enjoy a gentler vibe with grungy guitars and surf popped moments of rockin’ rock. Rebecca Ryskalczyk’s vocals really shine on their new self-titled album (Exploding in Sound Records). She’s like a less in-your-face St. Vincent. Though speaking of getting in your face, “Not Lotion” has notes of badassery in its storytelling and angry yells that are hard not to get worked up about.

“Govt. Cheese” is a swaying poppy tune. “Bad Girl” is catchy as hell and well, we won’t go into every song because they’re all just so damn pleasing.

Catch them alongside local favorite World Smasher, whose sound is self-described as “music to fall out of love to.” We dig that.

Come see everyone at El Rio on November 6th.
