SF Mime Troupe Celebrates 60 Years of Comedic Theater

The San Francisco Mime Troupe (SFMT) is back for its 60th year; delighting audiences with satirical, political theater, while calling out the craziness of contemporary life. If you haven’t seen the troupe before, their free performances (donations welcomed) are most often set in a park or plaza. But they’re not silent in a “classic Marcel Marceau mime” sense. There is dialogue, song, and lots of noise.

This year, using the classic tale of Treasure Island as its inspiration… the show follows Hawkins, a civil servant in San Francisco, who accidentally stumbles upon the unethical plans of a developer, L.J. Silver. The lyrics are written by Daniel Savio, son of famed Free Speech Movement leader, Mario Savio.

“The job of the artist in politics is to take leaps the politicos never take,” R.G. Davis, founder of the San Francisco Mime Troupe [SFMT]
