SFJAZZ Unveils Prodigious Lineup for 34th Festival & 2016 Summer Sessions

The San Francisco Jazz Festival will present 25 concerts over 12 days and Summer Sessions will present 55 shows over 38 days. Acts include McCoy Tyner Tribute with the legendary Chick Corea, a 12-year-old piano wunderkind Joey Alexander, and Bay Area jazz virtuoso Taylor Eigsti. Also announced today is the complete list of performers for the Summer Sessions concert series, which takes places July 17 to August 25, 2016, featuring New Orleans blues acts Dr. John & Nite Trippers and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, as well as Mexican-American band La Santa Cecilia.

There are many more noteworthy artists performing at the festival, including pianists Kenny Barron, Marcus Roberts, Benny Green, along with saxophonist Joe Lovano with McCoy Tyner, and Cuban musical group Los Van Van. In addition, American blues and R&B band California Honeydrops are also scheduled to play. Fun fact: this group formed in November 2007 while playing in Oakland subway stations.

Shows will take place at many venues across San Francisco, including the SFJAZZ Center’s Robert N. Miner Auditorium, Joe Henderson Lab, Davies Symphony Hall and Herbst Theatre.

Concert Series Programming for the 2016 Summer Sessions spans standards and songs of protest, a week of multi-generational Cuban masters, and the second annual Film + Music Festival featuring movie screenings accompanied by live music.

Tickets for both the festival and the upcoming Summer Sessions go on sale to the general public on March 15. Those who are SFJAZZ members can buy tickets beginning March 1.
