SF Film Society Presents Hong Kong Cinema
From September 21 through 23, the San Francisco Film Society presents the second annual Hong Kong Cinema festival at New People Cinema.
The film series, presented in association with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, highlights a highly cinematic region of the world, even though most of their films are criminally unseen stateside. Aside from recent films by popular and unknown filmmakers alike, this year’s series also includes a three-film retrospective celebrating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, with each film produced within that timeframe: Comrades, Almost a Love Story (Peter Chan, 1996), The Longest Nite (Patrick Yau, 1998) and Hong Kong (Fruit Chan, 1997).
All six remaining films have been made within the last year, including opening night film Love in the Buff and the North American premiere of Love Me Not, with writer/director Gilitte Pik Chi Leung expected at the screening on September 21.
So go ahead and enjoy a weekend of great cinema in one of the hippest theaters in town.
