Three socially-conscious local artists unveil new work at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Friday, February 17. Each artist touches on food and narrative in some way—they examine the politics of food and the globalization of agricultural production and how the pursuit of sustenance connects communities.

Artist April Banks combines sculpture, photography, video and sound in an installation relevant to developing nations practicing comparative advantage who no longer produce enough food at home to remain insulated from fluctuations in global food prices. Palestinian video artist Wafaa Yasin has an intimate connection with war and the Middle East conflict; her salutary work takes on the United Nations and examines the organizations’ policies with a keen eye. And collaborators Justin Hoover and Chris Treggiari present War Gastronomy, a functional and interactive food cart with the capability to produce a collection of war-time recipes.

The Raw Feed exhibition runs from February 17 to May 6 inside the Room for Big Ideas at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Admission is free.
