More Accolades for Mission Chinese Food

As if a new outpost in New York isn’t enough, Mission Chinese Food has been named to GQ’s list of Top 10 Best New Restaurants in America.

Earlier this week, the New York Times broke the news that the cult-like Chinese eatery would be opening a new restaurant on the Lower East Side. It is expected to open sometime this spring with a similar menu to the original on Mission Street in San Francisco.

Now, GQ has included it on its list of best new restaurants. Alan Richman calls it “mostly Chinese, somewhat American, occasionally spicy, a bit unorthodox and absolutely brilliant.”

He said the “dishes at Mission Chinese were wonderful from the start but more significant was the cooking of chef Danny Bowien.”

And by the way, if you haven’t read “Mission Street Food,” I highly suggest it. It is a wonderful memoir of how the business got started and includes a number of great recipes as well.
